My new album — plus two reissues — are out today!
It’s Okay To Go Back If You Keep Moving Forward is a quiet record in a capriciously loud time. The title has become a mantra I’ve repeated through the process of figuring out how to still create — on a small independent scale — in a time of so much destruction. It’s gratitude for the silence that helps us remember our voice, and for all that carries us through the night.
Pairing it with the reissues of Be Here Now (Now) and Generals is a natural trilogy that continues my obsession over the places where music and art intersect with politics, the collective consciousness, and the psychological and spiritual work it takes to maintain our sanity as we press forward towards the just, equitable future we all deserve.
I’m excited to tour these songs across America in intimate settings, and to partner with nonprofits in each city who support refugees and immigrants, to spread the great work they do everyday. I expect this tour will be my indie musician version of Steinbeck’s “Travels With Charley,” set to the score of this new Civil Rights era. But unlike Steinbeck, if I come across a protest, I won’t just bear witness: I’ll jump right in.
You can hear these records on QOBUZ & all other streaming platforms except Spotify. You can buy the LPs (all on ice blue vinyl) & digital albums via Undertow & Bandcamp. Thanks to everyone who helped make these records real & everyone out there supporting independent music. See you on the road soon! ♥️

After releasing my last record BE HERE NOW in 2017, my voice fell silent. 8 long years. No songs came. I didn't even want to sing or touch the piano. Something about it felt too painful.
But last year something shifted.
Songs started coming back like gentle lightning, illuminating the corners of a long darkened room. Before I knew it, I was on a solo US tour, and back in the studio recording fragile acoustic songs that felt like journal entries my voice had been hiding, even from me.
This fall I'm releasing a new album. Maybe two. I'll be doing this on my own without the support of a label for the first time since the first Mynabirds record came out in 2010. It feels both terrifying and exhilarating. But the deep community connections we're forging and nourishing directly with one another is what gives me the most hope these days.
Who needs a middle man?
I'm also going on a full US tour in November & December -- another solo Undertow tour playing stripped down versions of brand new and old songs in intimate spaces. We're looking for people & venues to host these show dates. Submit your spaces at undertowmusic.com.
I'll be partnering with local nonprofits in each town to raise awareness (and funds!) for the great work being done all over America -- regardless of what hell those in power are putting us through. People and music together in rooms IRL is something AI could never replicate, and what, I really believe, will save us.
My new releases will not be on Spotify. I have removed my music from that platform in protest of their terrible artist pay, AI music platforming, and CEO Daniel Ek's investment of nearly $700m -- money he profited off the backs of paying artists poverty wages -- into an AI military start-up, of which he is now Chairman.
I believe in CREATIVE solutions to our world's urgent problems.
Not more war and destruction that kills us and the planet, too.
I encourage you to join me on all other streaming platforms. Please go to qob.uz/mynabirds to try one month of streaming on QOBUZ -- best-paying & most ethical streamer out there -- for free.
More info on the album title (titles??), vinyl & digital release dates, final tour routing & tickets coming soon.
Thank you for listening -- deeply, always.
xx
Laura.
